Proton Perdana. 1994–2010 (prod. 77,178 sold). 4-door sedan. F/F, 1997 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1998 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Proton gets in to the two-litre segment with a locally made version of the Mitsubishi Eterna (1992–6), initially with a DOHC four, later joined in 1998 by a more refined V6. Manual deleted 1996; four-cylinder in 2000. Multi-link front and rear suspension, as with the Eterna, but injected with some of Lotus’s know-how. Major facelift in 2003, distancing Perdana from its Mitsubishi roots.

Top-of-the-range Australian Ford, on long-wheelbase Falcon Wagon platform, launched at end of 1998 for 1999 model year. ‘New Edge’ design had elements of Lincoln Town Car (1990–7) to it. Very similar to Fairlane but with more formal grille and equipment. Independent rear suspension from upmarket Falcons helped with handling and ride, though overall a fairly simple car. Used for official transportation in Australia and New Zealand; also favoured by funeral homes. AU II revisions for 2001.
