1997 Land Rover Freelander.jpg

Land Rover Freelander (CB40/L20/LNA). 1997–2006 (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door SUV. F/A, 1796 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1951, 1994 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 2497 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Codename taken from Canley Building, project 40, where the range was conceived. Stylish, chunky compact SUV styled by Gerry McGovern, and a huge success for Land Rover. Signed off under British Aerospace, completed under BMW. Roomy cabin, and off-road capability. First SUV with Hill Descent Control, first Land Rover with monocoque construction. Unreliable, thanks to its Intermediate Reduction Drive and K-series engines, although improvements were made during the run.

Manufacturing location: Halewood, Merseyside, England

Marque: Land Rover | Model: Land Rover Freelander | Successor: Land Rover Freelander 2
