Mercury Comet
From AutocadeComet, originally developed as an Edsel, became a Mercury after two model years (1960–1) without the marque, though it was sold at Lincoln–Mercury dealers. Compact Comets appeared, fancier than the Ford Falcon on which they were based, before the model became an intermediate for 1966. The Cyclone was spun off from the Comet. For 1971, the name returned on a compact, Mercury’s version of the Ford Maverick.
