Mercury Comet. 1964–5 (prod. over 180,000 for 1964). 2- and 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door hardtop coupé, 2-door convertible. F/R, 170, 200 in³ (I6 OHV), 260, 289, 427 in³ (V8 OHV). Comet grows again, approaching intermediate size, with a more sporting bent. A run of 50 Comet Cyclones were made for 1964 with the 427 in³ (standard Cyclone engine was the 289). Restyled front and rear for 1965, including stacked headlights. Made up the majority of Mercury sales.
