Originally the upmarket twin to the Ford Fairlane, spun off from the Comet line. For 1972, Ford gave the Montego a retrograde step by giving it body-on-frame construction. The line was eventually usurped by the Cougar, before a brief revival of the nameplate in the mid-2000s for a twin of the Ford Five Hundred.
