Autocade is an international car cyclopædia that’s geographically unbiased, carefully edited for enthusiasts and media who want a quick, accurate reference. There is a greater emphasis on models produced after 1970.

Inside Autocade

Mini Countryman (F60)

2017 Mini Cooper S Countryman.jpg

Mini Countryman (F60). 2017 to date (prod. n/a). 5-door estate. F/F, F/A, 1499 cm³ petrol, 1499 cm³ petrol–electric hybrid, 1499 cm³ diesel (I3 DOHC), 1995 cm³ diesel, 1998 cm³ petrol (I4 DOHC). Largest Mini is longer (add 20 cm) and wider than predecessor, on UKL2 platform. Greatly improved cabin, with larger screen, and head-up display. Fun to manœuvre despite size, and better refinement than before, though ultimately not as spirited a drive as Mazda CX-3. Mid-term revisions 2020.

Manufacturing location: Born, Limburg, Netherlands

Marque: Mini | Model: Mini Countryman | Predecessor: Mini Countryman (R60) | Successor: Mini Countryman (U25)

Peugeot 505

1980 Peugeot 505.jpg

Peugeot 505. 1979–97 (prod. 1,350,798). 4-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/R, 1796, 1971 cm³ petrol, 2304, 2498 cm³ diesel (I4 OHV), 1995, 2154, 2165 cm³ (I4 OHC), 2849 cm³ (V6 OHC). Related to 504 predecessor under the skin, but with squarer body styled jointly between Pininfarina and Peugeot for the late 1970s. Same principle: a tough, rear-wheel-drive saloon with emphasis on ride and comfort. Some of the diesels made it to New York as taxis. Cavernous Break and Familiale (eight seats) from 1982, with longer wheelbase. Turbo injection model in 1983, using Talbot unit developing 150 hp. Facelift in 1985, with new interior. Saloons ended production in 1989 in Europe, with estates in 1992. Not quite as global as 504, but 505s were built at Guangzhou in China in the 1980s and 1990s and had a good share of the market initially, but that dwindled as other companies entered the market.

Manufacturing locations: Sochaux, Doubs, France; Vigo, Spain; Villa Bosch, Argentina; Guangzhou, China; Los Andes, Chile; Cairo, Egypt

Marque: Peugeot | Predecessor: Peugeot 504 | Successors: Peugeot 405, Peugeot 605

Nissan Cedric (Y34)

Nissan Cedric 3·0i V6 24V.jpg

Nissan Cedric (Y34). 1999–2004 (prod. n/a). 4-door hardtop sedan. F/R, F/A, 2495, 2987 cm³ (V6 DOHC), 2498 cm³ (I6 DOHC), 4494 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Almost the final fling for the Cedric nameplate, which began life in 1960, and the last (pillared) hardtop to bear the name. LL platform, once again twinned with Gloria, but with more of a luxury slant. LCD monitor (not a touchscreen) included in interior, with optional TV. Inline six used for AWD models, as with Gloria. Fortieth-anniversary model in 2000. DVD navigation special models from 2001. Mid-term changes in 2001, with Nissan logo on the grille and a typeface change on the badges. Discontinued in 2004, though the regular Y31 sedan continued to 2014 as the last bearer of the Cedric nameplate.

Manufacturing location: Musashimurayama (武蔵村山市), Kantō, Japan

Marque: Nissan | Model: Nissan Cedric | Predecessors: Nissan Cedric (Y33) | Successor: Nissan Fuga (Y50)

q.v. Nissan Gloria (Y34)
