More responsive and safer, first car from a Japanese brand with a pedestrian airbag. Larger body and interior room, thanks to longer wheelbase. Mazda Axela (BM) and Volkswagen Golf VII were its benchmarks. Active torque vectoring from Levorg on some models; good ride and refinement. FB flat-fours from fourth generation carried over but with some improvement, and a weight reduction. Interior improved greatly, with eight-inch touchscreen featuring new software at centre. Originally launched as 1·6 in mid-October 2016; 2·0 followed in weeks.
