Autocade is an international car cyclopædia that’s geographically unbiased, carefully edited for enthusiasts and media who want a quick, accurate reference. There is a greater emphasis on models produced after 1970.
Inside Autocade
Kia Sorento (BL/JC81). 2002–9 (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV. F/R, F/A, 2351 cm³ petrol, 2497 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC), 3497, 3778 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Originally conceived as the replacement for the Kia Sportage (NB-7), but wound up starting a more upscale model line. Roomy, well equipped and safe, based on contemporary crash tests. Mid-term changes in 2006, with new front and rear suspension. Body-on-frame construction with live rear axle, which allowed it to be capable off-road, but handling was one of its weak points on-road.
Manufacturing location: Hwasung, Korea
Marque: Kia | Model: Kia Sorento | Successor: Kia Sorento R
Toyota Mark II (X70/YX70/LX70/SX70/GX70G/GX71/MX71/YX72/MX72/MX73/YX76V/LX76V/YX78V). 1984–97 (prod. 645,594 sold in Japan). 4-door sedan, 4-door hardtop sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 1812, 1998 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1832, 1988 cm³ petrol, 2446 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1988 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2759 cm³ (I6 OHC), 2759 cm³ (I6 DOHC). More formal (a ‘Beautiful Orthodox’ theme) looks for fifth generation, with export Cressida looking identical to the home market sedan and wagon, while hardtop gained a slanted nose. On the home market, sedans tended to be bought by taxi fleets and driving schools, while the hardtop was aimed at private buyers. Twin-turbo from 1985. Mid-term changes 1986. Hardtop and sedan discontinued in 1988, while wagon continued to 1997.

Same idea as LC10, but with a curvaceous new body, which looked fresh in 1973, but increasingly dated as the decade wore on. Wheelbase increased by 20 mm, and a four-door was introduced; the sedans had a lift-up rear window. Minor changes in 1974, with a reduction in horsepower due to emissions’ regulations.
Manufacturing location: Hamana-gun, Shizuoka, Japan
Marque: Suzuki | Model: Suzuki Fronte | Predecessor: Suzuki Fronte (LC10 II) | Successor: Suzuki Fronte 7-S
