Autocade is an international car cyclopædia that’s geographically unbiased, carefully edited for enthusiasts and media who want a quick, accurate reference. There is a greater emphasis on models produced after 1970.

Inside Autocade

Kia Niro (DE)

2016 Kia Niro.jpg

Kia Niro (DE). 2016–21 (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV. F/F, 1580 cm³–1·56 kWh petrol–electric hybrid, 8·9 kWh–1580 cm³ electric–petrol hybrid (I4 DOHC) 39·2, 64 kWh electric. Kia entry into the hybrid market to complement the Hyundai Ioniq (AE), with lightweight construction using steel and aluminium. Dual-clutch automatic transmission with electric motor. Batteries located under the seats. Safe, with attention to detail in the interior. Roomy with reasonable handling, but very much a city car despite the SUV profile.

Manufacturing location: Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, Korea

Marque: Kia | Model: Kia Niro | Successor: Kia Niro (SG2)

Zotye T600 Coupé

2017 Zotye T600 Coupé.jpg

Zotye T600 Coupé. 2017–20 (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV. F/F, 1498, 1499, 1799 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Slightly sportier version of T600, and ran alongside the original model until 2018, when it was renamed T600 (the Coupé tag dropped). “Floating” roof, and looking more original than regular T600. Good power (130 kW) from the 1·8, if a little thirsty. In most respects quite unremarkable. Appealed to buyers with its styling and price.

Manufacturing location: China

Marque: Zotye | Model: Zotye T600 | Predecessor: Zotye T600 (2013–18)

Simca Vedette

Not strictly a nameplate at this point, but a series of V8-powered large cars from Simca developed by Ford France. Ford divested its French operations to Simca and the cars were launched with the Simca badge in 1954, with various model names denoting the different trim levels. The Vedette continued in Brazil under various names there, including the Simca Chambord, and was facelifted to become the Simca Regente and Esplanada in the mid-1960s.

Marque: Simca | Predecessors: Ford Vedette, Ford Vendôme | Successors: Simca Chambord, Simca Alvorada
