Autocade is an international car cyclopædia that’s geographically unbiased, carefully edited for enthusiasts and media who want a quick, accurate reference. There is a greater emphasis on models produced after 1970.

Inside Autocade

Audi F103

Audi 60 L.jpg

Audi/Audi 60/Audi 72/Audi 75/Audi 80/Audi Super 90 (F103). 1965–72 (prod. 416,853). 2- and 4-door saloon, 3-door estate. F/F, 1496, 1695, 1761 cm³ (I4 OHV). First model in revived Audi line-up, originally without a model designation. Brought back a marque that had not been seen since before World War II. Body-wise, based on the DKW F102, but now with four-stroke engines, necessitating a stretch of the front end to accommodate them. Original model renamed Audi 72 when other variants were added, with the PS rating becoming the model designation (the Audi 60 was rounded up from 55 PS). Engine development began when Auto Union was under Daimler-Benz AG ownership. Refresh in 1970.

Manufacturing location: Ingolstadt, Germany

Marque: Audi | Predecessor: DKW F102 | Successor: Audi 80 (B1)

Bristol 412

Initially Zagato-bodied with removable Targa-style roof and fold-down rear hood, and fixed roll-over bar. Same platform as more conservative 603. Intended as the more sporting entry in Bristol’s range. Canadian Chrysler engine as before, though smaller unit with change to S2 in 1978. Rare, hand-built, with Italian body mated to British chassis at Filton. Rarest was 412 USA model.

Manufacturing location: Filton, South Gloucestershire, England

Marque: Bristol | Predecessor: Bristol 411 | Successor: Bristol Beaufighter

Madagascan producer of utility vehicles and the original Mazana (or Type 1), which gained international exposure briefly as the 1989 Popemobile when HH Pope John Paul II visited the island nation. Started in 1985, the brand had been born from an industrial development by the socialist government of the 1970s. A change of government in 1993 saw production ceased after 100 vehicles had been made. Le Relais Madagascar, a socioeconomic movement, bought the remnants including wrecks and parts in 2008, but a coup put paid to that attempt. A subsequent slow start saw old models being produced, before the Mazana II was shown in 2011. Prototypes were on the road in 2014, and the car began retail sale in 2016.
