Madagascan producer of utility vehicles and the original Mazana (or Type 1), which gained international exposure briefly as the 1989 Popemobile when HH Pope John Paul II visited the island nation. Started in 1985, the brand had been born from an industrial development by the socialist government of the 1970s. A change of government in 1993 saw production ceased after 100 vehicles had been made. Le Relais Madagascar, a socioeconomic movement, bought the remnants including wrecks and parts in 2008, but a coup put paid to that attempt. A subsequent slow start saw old models being produced, before the Mazana II was shown in 2011. Prototypes were on the road in 2014, and the car began retail sale in 2016.
