Audi followed up its successful 100 with a smaller 80, letting the wind tunnel dictate its proportions. Criticized for having too small a boot (leading to a spacesaver spare tyre), a consequence of its shape, though it was aerodynamic (C_d at 0,29). Zinc galvanized bodyshell, which was emphasized in its marketing, along with the Procon-Ten safety system. Different platform to sister car Volkswagen Passat (B3).
