Autocade is an international car cyclopædia that’s geographically unbiased, carefully edited for enthusiasts and media who want a quick, accurate reference. There is a greater emphasis on models produced after 1970.
Inside Autocade
Maserati Shamal. 1989–96 (prod. 369, incl. 23 RHD). 2-door coupé. F/R, 3217 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Maserati attempts to recover its mojo after the disappointment of the Biturbo. Development of Biturbo platform, with body designed by Marcello Gandini. Like Karif, which it supplanted, it shared its shortened wheelbase with Spyder (2,400 mm) and characterized by Gandini’s angular rear wheel arches. Twin IHI turbos on quad-cam engine, developing 326 PS; six-speed Getrag transmission. Baroque luxury inside, though not as much as later and less exclusive Ghibli II.
