Toyota Crown (トヨタ・クラウン) (S130/YS131/GS130/MS130/JZS131/UZS131/LS130). 1987–99 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 4-door hardtop sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 1988 cm³ petrol, 1988 cm³ LPG (I6 OHC), 1988, 2491, 2954 cm³ petrol, 1988 cm³ LPG (I6 DOHC), 1998 cm³ LPG (I4 OHV), 2446 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 3968 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Particularly long-lived series of Crown, with sales initially buoyed by the Japanese bubble economy at the time (a record 239,858 domestic sales in 1990). No class 5 models this time; all were class 3, over 1,700 mm in width. A technological tour de force for Toyota, despite the conventional looks, with traction control and CD-ROM-based car navigation, pioneered in the Royal Saloon G model. First round of changes in 1989, when driver’s airbag became an option, and the first V8 installed in the range (with the exception of the Toyopet Crown Eight of 1964) prior to the announcement of the Toyota Celsior (F10). The 2·5 was introduced in 1990. Full model change in 1991 for hardtop and the introduction of the Toyota Crown Majesta (S140), replacing the top Crown sedans; S130 sedan and wagon soldiered on with a facelift as lower-priced models. S130 sedan finally bit the dust in 1995, replaced by S150, while wagons were finally deleted in 1999.
