Hyundai Sonata (Y2). 1988–93 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan. F/F, 1796, 1997, 2351 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1997 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2972 cm³ (V6 OHC). Hyundai’s first export stab at the Ford Scorpio market, succeeding the Stellar and using Mitsubishi engines. Usual Korean dullness and Euro-bland styling (not ItalDesign’s best, though considered contemporary at the time), but sold well thanks to entry into North America, leading to Canadian manufacture. Revised New Sonata from 1991 with DOHC two-litre.
