Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Convertible.jpg

Pontiac Firebird. 1993–2002 (prod. n/a). 3-door coupé, 2-door convertible. F/R, 3348, 3790 cm³ (V6 OHV), 5664, 5731 cm³ (V8 OHV). More lithe-looking Firebird, with dual airbags and ABS as standard, and six-speed manual for Formula and Trans Am. Base 3·4 V6 at launch, with Formula and Trans Am getting larger LT1 5·7 V8. Convertible from 1994 model year, along with white-with-blue-accent Trans Am 25th anniversary model. Traction control option from 1995, the same year 3·8 emerged for Californian market, rolled out to the rest of the US in 1996, replacing 3·4. Increased power for V8 through air induction; equipment upgrades in 1997. New detuned Chevrolet Corvette (C4) LS1 V8 in 1998, with a slight decrease in cubic capacity but more power (305 hp), along with a mid-term refresh. Electronic traction control on all models from 1999; 30th anniversary Trans Am limited edition, with two blue stripes down the bonnet and bootlid, that year. Power increase for V8 in 2001. Interior looking dowdy as the 1990s ended, seemingly very plasticky by the standards of the day. Twinned with Chevrolet Camaro (1993–2002). Last Firebird; not directly replaced.
