F/F, 1124, 1360, 1587, 1761 cm³ petrol, 1769, 1868, 1905, 1997 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1761, 1998 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Smart-looking replacement for unhappy 309, built on Citroën ZX platform, at Talbot factories at Poissy and Ryton. Good handling, relatively little body roll, continuing tradition of Peugeots that were drivers’ cars. Performance drivers catered to by XS and S16 (called GTI in some markets), with latter getting a six-speed gearbox in one model. Elegant cabriolet from 1994. Mid-term facelift 1997.
