Designed by Masaru Furukawa and engineered by Yasukichi Akamatsu. Three-door hatchback the basic model, complemented by four-door (from January 1988) that was identical to Lancer. Considered stylish in its day, distinct from jelly-mould looks of similar cars. Few changes through run. Good ride and performance, especially from hot-hatch DOHC models. Called Lancer in Australia; Dodge Colt, Plymouth Colt and Eagle Summit in North America, with the hatchbacks exported from Japan.
