Larger than predecessor, even if it looked smaller in isolation; galvanized bodyshell. Well equipped. Fastback model actually the Mitsubishi Eterna (1988–92), though marketed as Galant for export. Formed basis of World Rally Championship model, marketed as VR-4. As was the trend in Japan at the time, four-wheel-steer model available, with complex technology. Other export names included Dodge 2000 GTX and Eagle 2000 GTX in Canada.
