From AutocadeMazda Premacy/Mazda 5 (CR/CR19/CREW/CR3W). 2004–10 (prod. n/a). 5-door MPV. F/F, 1798, 1999, 2261 cm³ petrol, 1999 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC), F/R, 1308 cm³ (Wankel 2 × 654 cm³) petrol–hydrogen hybrid. MPV based around Mazda Axela (BK) platform, now wider than the 1,700 mm of class 3, placing it into a higher tax bracket. Sliding rear doors, a major selling point for this segment. Third row of seats folded flat into the floor, while ingenious middle seat in the second row could be “folded out” from the base of the left-side seat (what Mazda called its 6+1 system). Very stylish, and one of the best handling compact MPVs. Shown as a show car at Genève 2004, production starting in December. Four-wheel drive from 2005. Top marks in contemporary safety tests in both Japan and Europe. Mid-term changes 2007. RE rotary hydrogen hybrid previewed in 2005 but first cars not delivered till 2009, in a leasing programme. Exported to some markets as Mazda 5. Twinned with Ford I-Max.
