Roomy compact MPV launched at Genève 1999. Strangely for a Mazda, not that great to drive, nor was it the roomiest in its class. Some sporting limited-edition models in Japan from 2000; limited-edition model in 2000 featured DVD navigation system. Minor changes in 2001, including addition of Sport model with 2·0 DOHC. Isofix child seat mechanism, improved body rigidity also part of mid-term changes. Some SUV features for 2001 limited edition. Japanese production to 2005. Chinese production at Haima from 2001, and incredibly successful, peaking at occupying 85 per cent of domestic MPV sales. Name change from Premacy to Cosmo and Freema in China at the end of 2006. Ran to 2008, when Mazda and Haima parted ways. Twinned with Ford Ixion.
