Mazda Luce Legato/Mazda Luce/Haima HMC6470L (LA4). 1977–88, 1992–2002 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 4-door hardtop sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 1146 cm³ (Wankel 2 × 573 cm³), 1308 cm³ (Wankel 2 × 654 cm³), 1769, 1970 cm³ petrol, 1970 cm³ LPG (I4 OHC), 2209 cm³ diesel (I4 OHV). Mazda nudges the Luce upmarket, still influenced by US design trends, including vertically stacked headlights. Sedan and hardtop initially, wagon (and van) added later. Legato tag dropped in 1978, and the models became simply Luce. New grille and horizontal, wrap-around headlights in 1979. Sedans made to October 1981; wagon to 1988. Exported as 929 and RX-9. Wagon then reappeared in China as the Haima HMC6470L, and ran from 1992 to 2002.
