From AutocadeMazda Luce (マツダ・ルーチェ) (HBSHE/HBPHE/HBPH8/HBSN2/HB1/HBS). 1981–6 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 4-door hardtop sedan. F/R, 1146 cm³ (Wankel 2 × 573 cm³), 1308 cm³ (Wankel 2 × 654 cm³), 1769, 1970, 1998 cm³ petrol, 1970 cm³ LPG (I4 OHC), 2209 cm³ diesel (I4 OHV). Related to Mazda Cosmo (HB), which also shared these bodystyles (and added a coupé). Longer and lower than predecessor, and wheelbase up 5 mm (to 2,615 mm). Still within class 5, at 1,690 mm width. Lighter than predecessor. Struts at front, while rear suspension changed from five-link to an independent trailing arm. Mid-term changes in 1983 saw a more formal grille for hardtop, and the 1·8 deleted. Exported as 929. Sedan returned 1989–95 as Custom Cab, for taxi use.
