Hyundai i30 (GD). 2011–16 (prod. n/a). 5-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/F, 1368, 1396, 1591, 1999 cm³ petrol, 1396, 1582 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC). Essentially the hatchback version of Avante, but developed in Rüsselsheim for European tastes. Longer, wider and lower than predecessor. Hyundai’s “fluidic sculpture” design language adopted successfully, while new 1·6 diesel launched with claimed 70 mpg and 100 g/km carbon dioxide emissions. Well planned interior with better quality materials, and fairly refined. Tendency to understeer, and behind Ford Focus Mk III in handling stakes. Facelift in 2014.
