Ford LTD (FD). 1982–4 (prod. 3,436). 4-door sedan. F/R, 4098 cm³ (I6 OHV), 4942, 5766 cm³ (V8 OHV). The car the FC should have been, with all-round coils and Watts’ link at rear, replacing leaf springs. Better handling, smoother ride, more refined, though still rugged in comparison to European luxury cars. Base six with an improved 105 kW. March 1983 saw the end of the V8s, with an EFI six replacing them, developing 111 kW. Ford claimed the injected engine was more powerful than the bent eights, but the figures showed that the 4·9 developed 138 kW and the 5·8 147 kW. A few more goodies inside, with revised steering wheel, lumbar support for front seats, electric seat adjustment, electric boot release, moonroof and cigarette lighters in the rear doors, among others.
