From AutocadeChrysler Valiant (CL). 1976–8 (prod. 36,676). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door panel van. F/R, 4015, 4343 cm³ (I6 OHV), 5211 cm³ (V8 OHV). Cost-cutting at Chrysler meant that the proposed VL was not a version of the Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volaré, but a facelifted VK. Now called CL, which meant this range of Valiants succeeded not only the lesser VKs but the top CKs, there were more modern front and rear ends, and equipment changes. A LeBaron trim was available on launch, while the top model became the Regal SE, on the standard wheelbase, but with power steering and air conditioning. Big 5·9 no longer available, and the range had fewer models overall.
