Premier Padmini. 1972–97 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan. F/R, 1089 cm³ (I4 OHV). Development of Fiat 1100D, particularly popular in Mumbai and southern locales. Due to the licensing agreement with Fiat ending, Premier changed the name to its own marque from 1972. Car had already been “indigenized”, with local content and improvements, since the 1960s. Well known to Marathis as a workhorse and for years the standard car in their part of India. Forty horsepower from four-cylinder engine.
