From AutocadeFord LTD (FA/P5). 1973–6 (prod. 7,003 sedan, 272 Landau). 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/R, 351 in³ (V8 OHV). Ford’s Australian flagship, on an even longer wheelbase than Ford Fairlane (ZG), at 121 in. Ford Falcon (XB) mechanicals, but packed with features in an effort to combat luxury imports (hidden headlamps, squarer rear end, four-wheel disc brakes [an Australian first], air conditioning, remote control mirrors, and others). Heavy thanks to the frills, but became the car of choice for political leaders, and wealthy Australians who wanted to buy local. Most expensive domestically produced car at the time. Limited-edition Town Car was fancier still, with pin-striping, custom umbrella inside, and a choice of only two colours. Landau was the Falcon hardtop coupé with the LTD grille, vinyl roof and different glasshouse shape, but few Australians saw the appeal of a personal–luxury car.
