From AutocadeFord Falcon. 1960–3 (prod. n/a). 2- and 4-door sedan, 3- and 5-door wagon, 2-door hardtop coupé, 2-door convertible, 2-door coupé-utility. F/R, 144, 170 in³ (I6 OHV), 260 in³ (V8 OHV). Compact (nearly three feet shorter than a full-size Ford), no-frills unibody car with a wide range of body styles, becoming very popular with US buyers, and combatting Chevrolet Corvair (1960–4), Valiant (1960), and Volkswagen Käfer (1960–80). With each year, a little more glamour was injected to the Falcon line, with 170 in³ six and upscale Futura line from 1961, Squire wagon with false wood panelling from 1962, convertible and hardtop from 1963, including Sprint model; V8 also from 1963. Formed the basis of the Ford Mustang (1965–6) as well as kicked off a long line of cars at Ford Australia, beginning with the XK; twinned with Frontenac (1960) and Comet (1960–1) and Mercury Comet (1962–3). This model was also built in Argentina, surviving to 1991.
