Comet (1960–1)
From AutocadeComet. 1960–1 (prod. 313,594). 2- and 4-door sedan, 3-door wagon. F/R, 144, 170 in³ (I6 OHV). Developed as a compact Edsel on Ford Falcon (1960–3) underpinnings, but lost its marque when Ford killed Edsel before March 1960 launch. Fancier than Falcon, on a longer wheelbase for sedans (but same as Falcon for wagons). Unitary construction. Oil consumption on the high side, but despite this, incredibly popular for Lincoln–Mercury dealers. Larger six added for 1961 as well as sporting S-22 model.
Marque: Comet | Successor: Mercury Comet (1962–3)
