Nameplate that has adorned numerous GM vehicles from very different places, though it was originally used for a range of cars conceived to fight the successful Ford Taurus in the US market. The Lumina sedan, coupé and minivan (originally Lumina APV) were introduced for the 1990 model year, with a refresh on the sedan for 1995 (when the coupé became the Monte Carlo). The US range was offered through to the 2001 model year, the final year’s output for fleets only. However, in the late 1990s, the badge began appearing on export versions of the Holden Commodore, beginning with the VT series, sold mainly into the Middle East, South Africa and parts of southeast Asia. The Philippine market, meanwhile, has also seen a Chevrolet Lumina: a rebadged Buick Regal made in China.
