Revision as of 12:27, 8 July 2017Volkswagen Polo/Volkswagen Polo Vivo (9N/9N3/9N4). 2001 to date (prod. n/a). 3-, 4- and 5-door saloon. F/F, 1198, 1598, 1984 cm³ petrol, 1896 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1390, 1398, 1598, 1781 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1422 cm³ diesel (I3 OHC). Sharing a platform with SEAT Ibiza (6L) and Škoda Fabia I, Polo IV was shown at the IAA in 2001 with a cute front end apeing Volkswagen Lupo, but was otherwise very rational. Higher perceived quality this time, and far better refinement, though not the most reliable, based on period surveys. Four-door saloon made in Brazil (from 2003) and China initially, later released in South Africa in 2010 along with facelifted five-door as Polo Vivo, an entry-level model. Polo Fun, faux off-roader, from 2004. Facelift in 2005, bringing Polo grille in line with other Volkswagens, tidying the look. Fun replaced by CrossPolo, while fuel miser Bluemotion and GTI performance model released 2006. Replaced in Europe in 2009. Facelifted in Brazil for 2012, looking largely like Vivo. Brazilian production to 2014. By then, only the South African Polo Vivo continued, a latter-day Citi Golf.
