F/F, 1197, 1390, 1798, 1984 cm³ petrol, 1598, 1968 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC), 1595 cm³ petrol, 1595 cm³ LPG, 1968 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 2480 cm³ (I5 DOHC). Revised Golf on Mk V platform but re-engineered to be cheaper to build. More upscale appearance with greater perceived quality and horizontal-themed grille in keeping with Volkswagen Scirocco III. Designed under VW design director Walter de’Silva. Still the premium hatchback in its sector, though steering vague. Single overhead cam diesel for North American market. Saloons replaced in China at the end of 2013. Cabriolet continued.
