Toyota Starlet (P70). 1984–9 (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door sedan. F/F, 999, 1295 cm³ petrol, 1454 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC). Starlet goes front-drive with OHC engines, and gains a modern, boxy appearance. Related to Tercel. Turbocharged variants offered, as was the trend in Japan during the 1980s. No van variant, but there was a commercial three-door on offer in Japan. Soleil trim level from 1985, with extra equipment, popular in Japan. Turbo with 105 PS in 1986. Diesel from 1987; the same time as a mid-term change. Turbo got to 110 PS in 1988.
