Toyota Starlet (P60). 1978–84 (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 993, 1166, 1290 cm³ (I4 OHV). Entry-level Toyota for most markets, replacing Publica, and taking a sub-model name from that range for itself. Worthy and reliable, but breaking little new ground other than having a two-box hatchback shape. Front disc brakes, fixed rear axle. Noticeable power gain with 1·2 and later 1·3 models. Square headlights from 1980, more substantial facelift in 1982, along with new dashboard.
