From AutocadeToyota Carina (トヨタ カリーナ) (T150/T160). 1984–8 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan. F/F, 1452, 1587, 1832 cm³ petrol, 1974 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1587, 1998 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Carina goes front-drive, with Toyota choosing to sell the new model alongside the previous rear-drive generation. More efficient, modern styling. Sedan only, so the A60 wagon and coupé continued. Front-drive models phased in to replace the rear-drive sedan over time. Japan’s first lean-burn (1·6) introduced; 1·8 featured electronically controlled central injection. Sporting DOHC models added 1985, replacing the rear-drive versions, identifiable with five-nut wheels. Mid-term changes 1986.
