From AutocadeToyota Camry (V40). 1994–8 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan. F/F, F/A, 1838, 1998 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2184 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC). Meant to be a larger car initially, but with the collapse of the Japanese bubble economy, Camry stayed in the class 5, 1,700 mm-wide segment. More formal looks, though largely the same formula, a well engineered if staid sedan. Much simpler: downgrades to interior equipment, and other cost-cutting evident in this model, down to a very simple grille. No hardtop on this outing. Mid-term changes 1996 with the return of a Camry badge on the grille; dual SRS airbags and ABS made standard. Last of the class 5 Camrys as Toyota went with the international range for the home market after the V40.
