In Chinese, the brand 紳寶, or 绅宝, already existed—it was an old translation for Saab. But an Latinized name was needed, and BAIC created Senova as the official, new translation for 紳寶. The marque, at launch, denoted cars based on old Saab technology which had been bought by BAIC prior to the Swedish manufacturer’s collapse. The Mitsubishi Colt-based D20 was added in 2014. Three SUVs were added in 2015: the X65, the X25, and, in between, the X55. However, by 2016 the brand began to decline, and in May 2019, BAIC began winding it up, with the relaunch of its Beijing brand.
