Larger but more conservative, fifth-generation Capella was better built and rigid. Improved suspension, ride and refinement. Diesel with innovative pressure wave supercharger, a first. Four-door sedan now with a six-light body, but duller in appearance; five-door fastback and two-door coupé (called MX-6 for export) smarter. Cargo station wagon, with five- and seven-seat options for export, from March 1988, replacing Luce Van. Mid-term changes in 1989, with inclusion of 1·8 DOHC.
