Maserati Kyalami
From AutocadeMaserati Kyalami (Tipo AM129/AM129/49). 1977–83 (prod. 126 4·2, 74 4·9). 2-door coupé. F/R, 4136, 4931 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Unusual Maserati in that it was a twin of the De Tomaso Longchamp, a car designed to compete with the Mercedes-Benz SL (R107) of these years. Notchback style was the first for a Maserati coupé since the Mexico. The De Tomaso’s Ford V8 was replaced with the Maserati units. Last Pietro Frua-designed Maserati, named for a South African racetrack where the company had had another victory. Larger engine from 1978. Plush, well trimmed grand tourer, but never successful. Last Maserati V8 until the Shamal of 1990.
