MG Montego. 1984–91 (prod. 34,476 plus 7,276 Turbo). 4-door saloon. F/F, 1994 cm³ (I4 OHC). Third of the warmed-over Austins adorned with the MG octagon as part of a 1980s’ marketing exercise. Fuel-injected saloon first, Turbo with Garrett T3 turbocharger from 1985, earning the title of the fastest MG saloon in production. Facelift in 1988. Not the best build quality, and torque steer in earlier models, though well regarded by its fans. Regular Montego Mk IIs for export to New Zealand had MG 2·0 badges, but really part of the marqueless Montego line.
