Czech rebody of Red Chinese long-wheelbase Volkswagen Passat (B5), developed for the Czech president—it was felt a stretched Octavia was not fitting. Very roomy—reported to have more legroom than a Mercedes-Benz S-Klasse at launch—and very cheap, although dynamically not much different from Passat. Favoured not just by one president, but by British minicab drivers who appreciate the space and value; excellent fuel economy from diesels. Mild facelift 2006; Laurin & Klement trim added that year, harking back to one of Škoda’s forebears. Central section of Superb adapted to Volkswagen Passat Lingyu in November 2005 for the Chinese market.
