Volvo 480 ES

Volvo 480 ES. 1985–95 (prod. 80,464). 3-door coupé. F/F, 1721, 1998 cm³ (I4 OHC). Stylish coupé, a departure from squarish models of the 1970s and 1980s. Styling harked back to 1800 ES of the early 1970s, and an alternative to the hot hatches of the era. ..→

Standard 2000. 1985–7 (prod. 3,232 approx.). 5-door saloon. F/R, 1991 cm³ (I4 OHV). Indian version of Rover SD1, in an attempt to revive Standard, and created to challenge Hindustan Ambassador (1959–2014). Expensive, at Rs. 2·12 lakh. Differences to ..→


Nissan Laurel

Large sedan and coupé line positioned above the Nissan Bluebird, originally with similar, boxy styling, but enlarged. Prince OHC units at launch. The Laurel tended to evolve with the times: swoopy, then boxy styling for the 1970s. As the 1980s dawned, the coupé disappeared (the ..→
