More upmarket rival to the Austin–Healey Sprite using Herald underpinnings. Retrospectively dubbed Mk I, but Spitfire 4 on launch. Michelotti styling. Tuned four-cylinder from Herald with twin SU carburettors. Oversteer due to suspension set-up (coil and wishbone up front but swing axle at rear). Overdrive from 1964.
