Opel Vectra GT.jpg

Opel Vectra/Vauxhall Cavalier/Chevrolet Vectra. 1988–95 (prod. n/a). 4- and 5-door saloon. F/F, F/A, 1396, 1598, 1796, 1998 cm³ petrol, 1686, 1699 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1998 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2498 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Replacement for J-car for Europe far more refined if on the dull side when compared with Peugeot 405. One of the better-made mid-sized saloons. Performance lacklustre for anything below 1·8. Four-wheel drive initially on top GSI model, but later introduced for a lower-spec two-litre. Called Vauxhall Cavalier in UK, as it was felt that Vauxhall Vectra would sound too close to Vauxhall Victor. Mid-cycle refresh in November 1992. Chevrolet Vectra released in Brazil 1993, New Zealand-market Opel Vectra switched to Holden brand 1994.
