Opel Diplomat. 1964–8 (prod. 9,152). 4-door saloon, 2-door coupé. F/R, 4638, 5354 cm³ (V8 OHV). Sister car to the Kapitän and Admiral, and Opel’s new range-topper (the three became known as the KAD models), equipped only with Chevrolet small-block V8s (the larger supplanting the smaller from 1966). Coupé especially rare, made by Karmann, and particularly expensive (prod. 347). Mid-term changes 1967. Considered out of step with German tastes, and not as successful as Opel’s previous generation of big cars.
