Opel Kapitän. 1964–8 (prod. 24,249). 4-door saloon. F/R, 2483, 2605 cm³ (I6 OHV), 2784 cm³ (I6 CIH), 4638 cm³ (V8 OHV). Opel’s large saloon, now part of a trio of models (Kapitän, Admiral, Diplomat) with Kapitän at the entry level with less chrome. Large, American-style bodies. Originally with a 2·6-litre six, developing 100 PS, but this was soon replaced by Opel’s CIH 2·8 in September 1965. Chevrolet V8 added at the same time, developing 190 PS (prod. 113). Smallest engine (2·5) was a tax special for the Austrian market. Minor changes 1965. Last Opel passenger car with six seats, thanks to the three-abreast front bench.
