2011 Mercury Grand Marquis.jpg

Mercury Grand Marquis (EN114). 1992–2011 (prod. 1,700,070 to 2009). 4-door sedan, 4-door LWB sedan. F/R, 4601 cm³ (V8 OHC). Reskin of Panther-based model that could trace its roots to 1979, and a twin of the Ford Crown Victoria of these years. Aero look but with formal roofline. New V8 OHC engine. Refresh for 1995, and a redesign for 1998 with some concessions to Ford’s New Edge design principles, but keeping much the same look. Further refreshes in 2003 and 2006, with rumours persisting through the 2000s about the car’s demise. A handful of 2011 models were built till January 4, 2011, when the last Mercury car left the plant. Roomy, despite fairly inefficient design, and V8 a good performer, but long past its sell-by date with its separate platform, appealing mainly to traditional, older buyers and fleets. Called Ford in Canadian marketing, despite wearing the Mercury grille, and numerous Canadian sources list the model as a Mercury. LWB with extra six inches from 2002, for fleets in North America, though exported to the Middle East for retail sale.
