Jaguar XJ6 and XJ12 Series III. 1979–92 (prod. 5,799 for 3·4; 117,897 for 4·2; 15,918 for XJ12). 4-door saloon. F/R, 3442, 4235 cm³ (6 cyl.), 5343 cm³ (285, 299 bhp) (V12). Pininfarina restyle produces the most elegant XJ6 and XJ12 yet, with new roof and glasshouse. Base engine develops 162 bhp; fuel injection added to 4·2, giving 205 bhp. May cylinder heads for XJ12 in 1981, raising power output to 299 bhp. XJ6 production finishes 1987 as XJ40 comes on stream; XJ12 (automatic only) produced till 1992.
