Pininfarina restyle produces the most elegant XJ6 and XJ12 on the original platform, with new roof and glasshouse. Base engine develops 162 bhp; fuel injection added to 4·2, giving 205 bhp. May cylinder heads for XJ12 in 1981, raising power output to 299 bhp. XJ6 production finishes 1987 as XJ40 comes on stream; XJ12 (automatic only) produced till 1992.
